People often fail to realize how much of our perception about divorce is shaped by fiction: Television programs and films that depict divorce as dramatic and hostile. Yet most people know examples of divorced couples whose divorce was calm and civilized, and who remain friendly and even sociable afterwards. How did they manage this?
